The Shadow - "Wrong Way" Down A One-Way Sidewalk
It’s great to be back in the Alleghany Highlands after an all-too-short respite exploring the North Carolina coast.
I have to say, the Hatteras Lighthouse is one of my favorite places to visit every time I’m down that way.
Well, enough of the small talk. Let’s get started, shall we?

The Shadow - Swinging Votes, Squashed Hopes & A $300,000 Noose
As I write this week’s column, there’s a great deal of disappointment in Clifton Forge, as the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad had its hopes for a new squad facility squashed by the town planning commission last week.
From my discussion with a member of the squad, the plan will still go before Clifton Forge Town Council, which can override the planning commission’s vote; but, from what Councilman Jeff Irvine has told the squad’s leadership, council will probably vote to uphold the commission’s ruling.

The Shadow - Heartburn, Hypocrisy & Bulging Bellies
Just when you thought I had gotten on my horse and traveled on, I have returned — kind of like that itch you just can’t scratch.
As I’ve told you before, you never know when or where I might appear.
Now before we get too far in the weeds with this edition, let me just say that I make it a point never to get personal with any official I might criticize in this column.

The Shadow - Emergency Quorums, Horse Tails & A Bridge In Brooklyn
Let’s get right down to it this week, shall we.
In Clifton Forge, I hear the good folks of the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad are hoping to move to new quarters on Ingalls Street, at the site of the former radio station.
I think that’s a great idea!
