STAUNTON — The Covington Lumberjacks snapped a five-game losing streak here Saturday night.
Peter Battaglia (Niagara), Bennett Hostetler (North Dakota State) and Christian Del Castillo (Seton Hall) all homered and the Jacks slugged 16 hits in a 14-5 rout of Staunton.
Battaglia hit a two-run shot in the first and drove in four, Hostetler belted a grand-slam in the fourth and drove in five, while Del Castillo scored four times to go with his two-run homer in the fifth.
Max Law (North Florida) added four hits for the Lumberjacks, who improved to 16-10 on the season.
Evan McAndrew (Mansfield) allowed one earned run over four innings of relief to post the mound win.
Brandon Hernandez (Central Florida), Brycen Thomas (Middle Tennessee State) and Eric Conner (Walsh) all had two hits for the Braves.
The Lumberjacks, who played nine of their last 11 games on the road, now enter a stretch loaded with home games.
Six of their next seven will be at Casey Field, starting with a Wednesday 5 p.m., doubleheader with Front Royal.
The Jacks host Strasburg on Thursday, and after a trip to Waynesboro on Friday, play three home games this weekend — a Saturday doubleheader with Harrisonburg and a Sunday single game against Strasburg.
The VBL’s Southern Division started play Monday with three and a half games separating first and last place.
