The HECAN (He Can) movement started back in 2016 in support of Covington High School graduate Pooh Twitty’s fight against multiple myeloma.
Saturday, the organization will be holding a football camp at the Jackson River Sport Complex from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost for the camp is $25 and the event is open to ages 7 through 15.
Coaches for the camp include Darren Venable and Boo Stewart with Troy Helton and Chase Woodard serving as trainers.
A special guest instructor for the clinic will be Juston Burris, a cornerback with the New York Jets.
Burris’ mother, Kerry Davis, is originally from Clifton Forge.
All campers will receive an autograph and photo with Juston.
Spectators will receive an opportunity for autographs and photographs with Burris if time permits for a $5 donation to the HECAN movement.
The HECAN movement this past year did a give back campaign and will continue those efforts. HECAN gave back to Emily Byer and Shawna Jefferson, along with the Lewis Venable Scholarship. Emily is battling Ewing’s Sarcoma and Shawna recently suffered a brain aneurysm. Each honoree was given over $800 and Pooh was also awarded equally to his surprise.
For questions on the camp or HECAN, call 540-958-3816. Registrations will be taken Saturday morning at 8 a.m. for the camp.
