LOW MOOR — The Alleghany Humane Society has received significant support from local businesses D.D. Kerns Construction and Alleghany Highlands Mechanical with improvements to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system in the dog wing of the animal shelter.
On Nov. 15, D.D. Kerns donated the use of their crane equipment and their skilled staff to remove the old system by lifting it across the humane society facility.
Once the old system was out of the way, the D.D. Kerns crew rigged the new equipment, lifted it back across the shelter, and placing it into position.
The new HVAC equipment was ordered and installed by Alleghany Highlands Mechanical at cost.
Since the current humane society facility opened in the fall of 2007, Alleghany Highlands Mechanical and their team has often donated their services in order to keep the four-legged shelter residents warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
The Alleghany Humane Society is a non-profit organization which serves as a safe haven for stray or unwanted companion animals.
The humane society also strives to educate the public about proper care and treatment of pets, advocates for animal welfare, facilitates spay and neuter opportunities and promotes adoption to reduce pet homelessness.
