Alleghany High School Evacuated Thursday Due To Fire Alarm

Alleghany High School was evacuated Thursday as a precaution after a fire alarm was activated.

Eugene Kotulka, superintendent of Alleghany County Schools, said the alarm was triggered by HVAC equipment over the stage area in Alleghany High School’s Hodnett Hall. No fire was discovered.

Kotulka said maintenance workers replaced a belt on an air handler over the stage area.

The fire alarm was reset after the belt was replaced.

The school was evacuated at 2 p.m. and area fire departments were dispatched to the scene.
