County Man Dies In Thursday Accident

CLIFTON FORGE — The driver of a pickup truck died Thursday evening in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in eastern Alleghany County.

Virginia State Police idetified the victim as Darrin Scott Nicely, 48, of Clifton Forge.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m.

State police spokesman Sgt. Rick Garletts said Nicely was traveling east on Route 269 (Longdale Furnace Road) in a 2016 Dodge Ram.

The truck ran off the right side of the road, struck several trees and overturned.

Nicely was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt, Garletts said.

The accident scene was approximately three-tenths of a mile from Route 269’s intersection with State Route 635 (Nicelytown Road).

The accident is being investigated by Trooper J.E. Philpott.
