Paul Craft

SALEM — Paul “Luke” Craft Jr., 68, passed away Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem peacefully with family and friends by his side.

Paul was born July 11, 1949, to the late Ruby Davis Craft and Paul Wilson Craft Sr.

Paul was the beloved husband of 48 years to Sandra. He was the father to Todd and Lorie Craft.

He is survived by his brother, Sonny Craft and wife Liz of Eagle Rock; and a sister, Judy Bell and husband Gary of Clifton Forge.

A brother preceded him in death, Daryl “Chipper” Craft.

He was a brick and a stone mason and enjoyed flipping houses with his son.

He served during the Vietnam Conflict from 1967-1968 in the U.S. Army with the “Manchus” 25th Infantry Division as a machine gunner and squad leader and “Tunnel Rat.”

He was awarded three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation of Achievement.

He returned stateside to become a drill instructor at Fort Campell, Ky.

Keeping with his wishes, he donated his body to Life Net in the hope of advancing research and giving life to others.

His body was cremated at Oakeys in Roanoke and the immediate family will have a private service.
